Chalk Streams, New Commissions & Exciting News!

It’s been a wonderfully creative week in the studio, with my focus firmly on one of my favourite subjects – the beautiful chalk streams that weave their way through Salisbury.

I’ve been working on two new paintings inspired by these remarkable rivers. One will soon find its new home in a local café, while the other will be available to view in my gallery and shop. I recently enjoyed two peaceful trips punting along the River Avon, camera in hand, gathering a wealth of reference photographs. Over the coming months, these will become the inspiration for a whole series of new paintings.

There is something truly magical about chalk streams. Their crystal-clear waters reveal the riverbed below, while the surrounding reeds, wildflowers and abundant wildlife create an ever-changing tapestry of colour and movement. They are among our rarest habitats, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have them on my doorstep. To me, they deserve to be celebrated, and I hope these paintings capture just a little of their beauty.

Alongside these new works, I’m also busy creating a series of large illustrated boards that will be displayed in Old George Mall, where my gallery is based. They’ll be very much in the spirit of my murals in Pepys Walk—bold, colourful and full of life. I can’t wait to see them brighten the space and bring a smile to people’s faces as they pass by.

Finally, I have some exciting news to share! I was delighted to learn this week that my painting, The Ripple Effect, has been shortlisted for the SAA Art Competition. It’s an honour to be included, and with several wonderful prizes and opportunities on offer, I’m keeping everything crossed. I’ll be sure to share any updates as soon as I have them.
