Tropical flowers

I have recently returned from the beautiful tropical island of Madeira. The whole experience was like being transported into paradise, but the elements of scenery that captivated me the most were the exquisite flowers and plants. Not all of them are native to Madeira, some have been transported from the near shores of Africa, like the ‘tulip tree’, and some, like the eucalyptus tree originated from the far shores of New Zealand. They all look very much at home though, lining the streets, growing wild in the forests and mountains and planted beautifully in cultivated gardens. This recent painting pays homage to those plants and flora and my hope is that it encompasses the essence of this breathtaking island.

The Pride of Madeira! 😍
