Lockdown art work
Since the lockdown, even though I’ve be busy remote teaching, I have found myself wanting to paint more and more. I can’t quite fathom whether I’ve been desperate to get into my ‘happy place’ because of low level anxiety and change, or because of a new appreciation of the beauty of nature, probably a combination of the two.
The first two paintings were an investigation really. I wanted to experiment more with watercolour - a medium I’ve found tricky to work with in the past, and I wanted the challenge of depicting soft, touchable fur. After conquering the Tiger, I felt it rude not to paint another big cat with very different colourings; it’s always good to challenge yourself as an artist.
The third painting, a landscape, is a scene close to where I live. After taking numerous photos on dozens of walks to this field, I decided to paint it - it sold as soon as I had finished it. When landscapes are concerned, if I’ve immersed myself in the environment, I am convinced I produce better, more atmospheric drawings and paintings. I hope it won’t be long before I can travel a bit further afield than beautiful Salisbury and try and capture more scenes…..watch this space!
